Roblox accused of showing 'roleplay' adult content to children

Global online platform Roblox is now under fire for showing ‘roleplay’ adult content to children. The experience platform is known for hosting users with millions of games. It also allows the users to create their own games and play with other users across devices like the Playstation, Xbox, Windows, Android and iOS.

The game also allows social interaction, chats, and groups where players can collaborate. There are many experiences in Roblox, and one of those is roleplay. This is a social game where users can choose one role, like caring for pets, doctor, student, or even being a werewolf in a fantasy village.

Failure in child safety

Roblox is now accused of showing adult content in role-play modes. Apart from all the other role plays mentioned above, there are also some other adult-fantasy-themed role play rooms inside the game. Players can enter the sexually themed role play room and engage with other users. They were accused because children below age 5 can also access the adult role play rooms, which is unethical for the minors. There are not enough restrictions for children, and the grown adults are preying on young children in these role play rooms.

A user who is 45 years old can allow a user who is registered as 5 years old into these role-playing rooms. These people use their own avatars to simulate sexual acts, which is bad for society. One research says, “Children can interact with adults right across the Roblox platform. The virtual night club and hotel environment- called ‘Boys and Girls Club roleplay’ has strong undertones and is accessible to all children.”

Some adults are even asking children for their Snapchat user account, and there is no one to stop them. Roblox has a big responsibility to protect young users from becoming sexual prey. The issues we found with Roblox are that there is no age verification for adults and children, sexual themed rooms are accessible even to children under 9, no safety measures for children, private chats are easy, and a failing content rating system.
