Riot Games brings back Hextech Chests Photograph: (Riot Games)
A few weeks back, Riot Games decided to remove the Hextech Chests, one of the most popular ways of acquiring free skins in League of Legends. However, the decision saw a huge community backlash which forced the company to walk back on the changes and re-introduce the chests. The announcement came in the most recent dev update along with a few other changes.
“It’s clear that for many of you, Hextech Chests weren’t just a way to get stuff, they were an important part of making your time in League feel rewarding. We didn’t fully grasp how much this mattered to you, and that led us to make changes that missed the mark. As a result, Chests are coming back. Starting in patch 25.05, which is the patch next week, you’ll be able to earn up to ten Chests and Keys per Act,” Riot said in its blog post.
Riot Games working to win back community trust
The return of Hextech Chests isn’t the only thing Riot Games made changes towards. Starting patch 25.05, the Blue Essence cost of champions will also be reduced by 50%. This was done in order to help new players unlock champions much faster, especially with a massive roster. This will ultimately help Riot retain more players.
We've been listening to your feedback, and want to ensure League remains rewarding and worthy of your time. @RiotPabro and @RiotMeddler are here to walk you through what's changing and why in this Dev Update.

Apart from this, the company also promised better cosmetics which was one of the main issues raised. Players claimed while skin prices were getting higher, the quality degraded. Working on this, Riot Games has delayed the upcoming Exalted Mordekaiser skin for more improvements along with future Exalted skins.

League of Legends players are not completely satisfied
All these changes are a step in the right direction, however, not everyone is completely ready to let Riot Games off the hook. There is currently an ongoing petition with players urging Riot to change its leadership. The addition of Hextech Chests amidst all this is a welcome change along with the reduction in champions' costs, however, League players will likely observe things moving forward.
