Game studios won't be able to use Nemesis System anytime soon (Photograph: Monolith Productions)
Warner Bros. Games recently announced the closure of multiple game development studios along with the cancellation of the Wonder Woman game. Among the shuttered studios was Monolith Productions who created the Nemesis System which became quite popular among players, but was patented by WB Games.
While the company let go of Monolith Productions, the same did not happen to the Nemesis System which is stuck with WB Games till 2036. The expiration date of the patent is August 11, 2036, meaning for the next decade or until Warner Bros. Keeps paying the associated fee, no other studios will be able to use this Nemesis System even after the studio behind it has been shut down.
Nemesis System patent creates controversy; Fans react
Many people were wondering what was going to happen with the Nemesis System. The canceled Wonder Woman game was also going to utilize this system, however, the news regarding the feature being locked for over a decade did not go well with players, especially when WB Games only utilized this feature twice. Ridiculous that they were even able to get a patent on the Nemesis System and now that Warner Bros cancelled the Wonder Woman game we aren't going to see the Nemesis system anytime soon.

What is the Nemesis system?
The Nemesis System is a clever way to introduce a new challenge to players. First introduced in Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, the system feeds the player actions to NPC enemies. These actions have a big impact on the nemesis which will shape its personality and allow players to have unique interactions. This helped players avoid the feeling of repetitive content and was highly praised by everyone.
