Ubisoft officially unveiled Rainbow Six Siege X, a complete overhaul of the base game along with the introduction of a new 6v6 game mode, set to launch on June 10. The Season 2 of Year 10 update will also make Siege free to access for everyone. Not that it’s expensive but those who held off playing the game can experience the core game and more.

Advertisment

“Siege X will introduce Dual Front, a dynamic new 6v6 game mode, as well as deliver foundational upgrades to the core game (including visual enhancements, an audio overhaul, rappel upgrades, and more) alongside revamped player protection systems, and free access that will allow players to experience the unique tactical action of Rainbow Six Siege at no cost,” Ubisoft wrote.

Here are some of the key features in Rainbow Six Siege X

New 6v6 game mode and dynamic environment

The new 6v6 game mode is called ‘Dual Front’ and is a bit different than the regular match of Siege. Both teams will be attacking and defending at the same time. The objectives for both teams are similar, get into the site and plant a sabotage kit (Defuser). They can either choose to split forces or go all in and plan before their opponents do. The new Dual Front game mode will also be available for free players.

Siege was also popular for its environmental destruction and Siege X is adding more destructible objects that can be used tactically. The reveal showcased exploding fire extinguishers and cylinders, so there will be a lot more to look out for.

Improved visuals and audio

Rainbow Six Siege depends a lot on audio cues, especially in the higher-ranking lobbies. A non-siege player would be surprised to see how accurately a pro can tell different sounds. With Siege X, Ubisoft claims that the audio quality is even better, allowing everyone to have a better idea of enemy location.

As for the visuals, lighting and shadows have been improved which can also help during a match. Base texture resolution has been improved, but those who want even higher res will need 4K textures. The launch will see five maps get a visual overhaul with each season adding three more to the list.

Anti-cheat and Player Protection

One last thing the presentation noted was player protection against cheating and toxicity. Cheating is inevitable across almost all games, but with good measures, it can be lowered. The devs promised even better implementation of its anti-cheat measures with Rainbow Six Siege X.

Regarding in-game toxicity, it's no secret that things can get heated most of the time in Siege even resulting in grief. There’s always an option to mute others, but the offenders will also be punished as per their offense. Ubisoft has promised a lot of things for the game and while Rainbow Six has been the only game that’s worked out well for them, it remains to be seen how much things change.
