Rasheed Abueideh, a Palestinian game developer, has now announced crowdfund for a new game ‘Dreams On A Pillow’ set around the violent displacement of Palestinian Arabs in 1948 also known as Nakba. Rasheed has previously developed a mobile title ‘Liyla & The Shadows of War’, which depicted the 2014 conflict.
As per the official description from the crowdfunding page, Dreams on a Pillow is a pseudo-3D stealth adventure game inspired by a historical Palestinian folk tale of Omm and tells the story of life before and after the 1948 Nakba.
“Like all oral folktales, the story of Omm has numerous variations, however, all stories share the same fundamental elements: a young mother living in Palestine had her husband murdered by the Zionist invaders, and she ran to her home to retrieve her newborn child from the bed,” it further adds.

A new journey with same vision for Rasheed
The game seem to be divided into different parts, telling the story of life before the Nakba and as the story progresses Omm is stuck between the conflict and records her journey throughout al-Tantura to the concentration camps of Atlit in an attempt to travel towards Lebanon.
The gameplay is also quite different from regular platformer games, while Omm has her pillow her ability to interact with the environment is limited. Once it is put down, she can perform a variety of actions but at the same time, her nightmares also come to life. Players need to complete the objective and make their way back to pillow as quickly as possible.
As of now, the game has raised over $50,000 out of the $194,800 goal. Rasheed estimates the entire development cost to be around $495,000, but the current goal on LaunchGood will allow them to move the game from pre-production into a production state.
