Original Skyrim crosses 2 billion mod downloads

Despite being over a decade old, the Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is one of the most popular games and still boasts a large audience. This is thanks to the modding community providing some incredible options to gamers. While many have shifted to the Special Edition, some still play the original release, as made clear by the 2 billion mod downloads.

Spotted by thegamer, the original Skyrim has surpassed 2 billion mod downloads on Nexus Mods, an incredible feat for a game released in 2011. This also goes on to show how much the modding community helps keep the community alive.

What’s impressive is that Skyrim is in the second spot when it comes to mod downloads and is only bested by Skyrim Special Edition which features additional content. The contest, however, isn’t close as the Special Edition sits at over 6.5 billion mod downloads. It’s also interesting to see that out of the top five games, the first four are by the same developer.

As one can guess, with such a big community, there are also countless mods to try inside Skyrim. The special edition boasts over 70,000 mods while the original Skyrim has over 100,000. From UI and visual improvements to game-altering changes, gamers can get almost anything.

The most popular mod at the moment is SkyUI for Skyrim Special Edition which currently sits at 25+ million downloads. This mod does exactly what it says by enhancing the in-game UI which enables a lot more options and provides a much better experience.

Close behind with almost 25 million downloads is Skyrim HD - 2K Textures. The graphics for the game which is over 14 years old can be a bit dated.
