Popular game journalist predicts GTA 6 release will slip into 2026

One of the popular names in game journalism with heavy insider knowledge, ‘Jason Schreier’ believes that the GTA 6 release will be slipping into 2026. The game currently has a release window of Fall 2025 and everyone is quite excited. A delay, however, wouldn’t be surprising considering previous games by Rockstar also had one.

This comes as part of Schreier’s 2025 predictions via Bloomberg, for the game industry, and he isn’t ready to bite what Take-Two is feeding. Despite the company reassuring fans that there is no delay for GTA 6 release, Schreier believes otherwise.

“Companies say a lot of things. The next Grand Theft Auto is a huge and ambitious game, the pressure to make it great is inordinate, and developer Rockstar Games has vowed to avoid forcing excessive overtime during the final months of development. I expect that it will slip to 2026,” he wrote.

A highly ambitious game likely to face delay?

Despite Take-Two reassuring fans there is no delay, the CEO of the company, Strauss Zelnick, in a recent interview asked fans to have patience as the game is way bigger and better than anyone can anticipate. “I think it'll be extraordinary and worth the wait,” were his specific words.

It’s hard to tell if Zelnick was asking fans to wait in general till the game releases or hinting that it might get delayed. After all, GTA 6 is quite big in terms of scope and there hasn’t been any news regarding the game for quite some time.

Regardless of what happens, Hollow Knight Silksong likely will, or at least that’s what Schreier believes. The long-awaited sequel to Hollow Knight will finally be released in 2025, despite there being no news about the game since the initial reveal. If that happens, gamers still remain neutral in terms of big releases this year.
