India have one of the largest gaming audience but not may opportunities go international. With the International Olympic Committee giving a green light to the Olympic Esports Games, players now have a huge opportunity on their hands to compete internationally, with even the government planning to make the esports initiative a success.

The first iteration will be hosted by Saudi Arabia in 2025 and will continue to host the event for the next decade. They also recently hosted the first ever Esports World Cup that featured a prize pool of $60 million, which turned out to be very successful

The Olympic Esports Games only a huge step towards Esports, but also a huge opportunity for India to make way into international esports scene and ultimately make a name across the globe.

India already have a few achievements across a few international events, including a bronze during the Commonwealth Esports Championships 2022 in Dota 2. Most recently, India defeated all neighbouring countries to secure a spot at OXY 2024 Dota 2 event for the first time in history.

In the light of the growing esports community, the Esports Federation for India announced a National Esports LAN Event that will feature tournaments for various esports titles. This is done in order to bolster and uplift players aiming to make a career in esports. Dates for the events will be revealed soon.

Current situation of Indian Esports

Despite having a huge esports community, Indian Games have not got more opportunities to compete internationally. Apart from a few bronze and silvers, India haven’t truly secured a championship. This is mainly due to lack of practice and tournament, alongside the accessibility issue.

With more reason to compete, more teams will be encouraged to take part and give their best. ESFI also works with the International Esports Foundation (IESF) that can also bring more opportunities.
