For the first time, Indian Dota 2 team have secured top spot at OXY 2024 South Asian Qualifiers and will be competing against 7 other international teams.

Taking down their competing neighbours, the Indian Dota 2 team recently secured the top spot at the South Asian Qualifiers for Open Esports Students Games and have now qualified for the main event, OXY 2024, set to take place from October 21 to 26 in Sochi, Russia.

Competing against Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Pakistan and Bangladesh, the team managed to secure four out of five games, landing on top of the leaderboard alongside Nepal. This will also be the first appearance for India at the OXY 2024 which tells us how much esports has been improving. It’s a slow process, but the teams are making progress over the years.

“India’s participation in OXY 2024 is a tremendous opportunity for our student players, offering them invaluable exposure to high-level competition. This prestigious tournament will not only showcase their skills on a global stage but also mark a significant moment for Indian esports, highlighting our growing presence in the competitive arena,” said Vinod Tiwari, President of ESFI.

First OXY 2024 for India Dota 2 team

The Open Esports Student Games will feature 38 teams from different nations, including India. The team in talk here are The Avengers featuring IGL Abhishek Yadav, Dhruv Kohli, Subhadeep Das, Nagaraj, and Manav Kunte made their way through the NESC24.

Taking place over seven days, the NESC24 is a national event hosted by ESFI that can grant teams a ticket to represent the country on an international level. This time, The Avengers bested their opponents both in the national event and the South Asian Qualifiers to make it into OXY 2024.

Speaking of this achievement, Abhishek Yadav said, “We’re thrilled to have qualified for OXY 2024 as table toppers from South Asia. Our focus was on delivering our best in the regional qualifiers and securing a spot in the main event in Sochi, Russia”.

“Qualifying for the main event is a milestone moment for the Indian esports community, and we will do everything possible to create a significant impact and showcase our talent on this global stage,” he added.
