Laptop series of Nvidia GeForce RTX 50 costs have skyrocketed and the prices are extremely hefty without any reflection on the performances that they have to offer. Even for desktops, the prices are very high without any record of their performance or standard. With the prices starting at $1,719 for RTX 5070 Ti, the prices have been raised to $3,129 for the basic model of RTX 5090.
It is also quite astonishing to see that the top model prices are at around $6,199 which is excluding the Evoc X5801D model with 200Hz screen, 256GB RAM to be at around $8,979 price range.
The price asked does not align with these GPUs. For what the people are paying, the performance is not representing the GPU namesake. RTX 5090 Mobile was away from the desktop RTX 5090 during the early tests. Instead of being closer, the laptop has been above the desktop RTX 4070 Ti Super, being far from what the ideal price should be.
Limited budget for laptops and questionable performance
Having said that, it might not come as a surprise for most if we take the factoring in RTX 5090 Mobile which is only 10,496 CUDA cores. This is on 21,760 of its desktop equivalent. The RTX 5090 Mobile is much more familiar with the RTX 5080 desktop housing 10,752 CUDA cores. This adds to the point that there are limited budgets on laptops and the performance remains undefined based on what the GPU name is. Silicon cost for Nvidia does not change because it brings into use the same architecture, but the price difference is astonishingly high.
The funny part is that there are many such instances when RTX 5080 Mobile has won against RTX 5090 Mobile. The unsatisfied demands of RTX 5090 or RTX 5080’s cooling might influence the performance. Mobile GPUs are more constraints which can make or break the performance.
