AI chatbots seem to be the rage in recent months, first Microsoft and now, Nvidia released a new AI chatbot called ‘Project G-Assist’. This comes as a part of the latest update for the Nvidia App giving the players the option to use custom DLSS scaling for games, a much-needed feature to have a resolution that players want.
The demo was revealed back in June 2024 at Computex and now the feature is available in the V0.1, basically a beta. What’s best is that the feature runs locally using the GPU in the system, the issue here is that only Nvidia RTX 30 series GPUs are supported as older graphics cards cannot properly run AI computes.
“With simple voice or text commands, G-Assist can maximize performance and optimize power efficiency, adjust game settings, provide real-time diagnostics, chart performance metrics, customize your peripherals, and more all powered locally by your GeForce RTX GPU,” the description says. Do note that since G-Assist runs on SLM, it can only do basic things and isn’t meant to have a full-blown conversation.
G-Assist to remain free and support custom plugins
The main highlight here is that the locally running AI may be the best possible option for everyone. Locally running means no outside interference or data transfer. Furthermore, those who do not wish to use it can also turn it off. Those who want to use it can use text or voice commands to interact with the AI.
Apart from responding to small queries, the app can also make an API call to change things in real-time like changing settings, launching games, and more. There’s also a Github repo on how to make custom plugins for the Nvidia G-Assist.

Custom DLSS resolution
Before the update, users could only choose from a select set of resolutions to upscale using Nvidia DLSS. With the latest Nvidia App changes, this restriction is also gone and the upscaling resolution can be set to a custom amount, something that player thinks will be the best in terms of visuals and performance.
