Korean FPS shooter game makes use of advanced AI to give players a challenge

An upcoming stealth FPS shooter game from EVR Studio ‘Project TH’ will reportedly make use of AI to make enemies more challenging. Announced back in 2022, the studio has provided steady updates and has recently showcased how the enemy AI works across various combat situations and can adapt for better realism and challenge.

Fights in single-player games, especially FPS shooters have always seen a general complaint about the AI being predictable and the only option to increase difficulty is to have them do more damage and force gamers to change their approach.

Enemies will try to outsmart players

While it isn’t exactly stated how it works, the developers say that the enemy AI will not brainlessly shoot at players. Instead, according to what players do, the enemy will try and adapt, like throwing grenades will lead enemies to group up less often. If a player is taking cover, they will try to flank or push them out of the position.

“In Project TH, the AI system is designed to actively utilize environmental structures to apply continuous pressure on the player. To achieve this, we have integrated situational awareness AI with dynamic navigation, allowing the AI to employ tactical movement strategies rather than simply pursuing the player along linear paths,” the developers explain.

On paper, EVR Studio does make it sound very fun and challenging experience, but only time will tell who will speedrun the game. Speaking of speedrun, Project TH currently does not have a release date, however, the updates have been more frequent in the last few months.

Project TH to focus on realism

The whole idea here is to give players a feeling of actually being in the scenario and not a scripted fight. Project TH doesn’t simply need to do what other games did in the past to provide a similar feeling but also improve upon it. The visuals for the game also look great meaning players may need some decent specs to properly run the game.
