If a year-long delay for PC gamers was not enough, GTA fans are now worried about Steam Deck compatibility for GTA 6. This comes after a recent implementation of BattlEye anti-cheat by Rockstar Games to GTA 5 which removed the Steam Deck verified tag from the game and many players were quite upset.

The recent addition of BattlEye for GTA 5 was made to improve the cheating situation in GTA Online that many players were tired of. Sadly, the BattlEye implementation Rockstar Games used isn’t compatible with Linux, which is the main operating system for Valve’s Steam Deck, and players have now lost access to games on that device.

This is a major concern for many fans, as many games have seen boosted sales due to Steam Deck compatibility. Of course, GTA 6 will likely be the top seller with the PC launch, however, fans believe having the Deck verification will result in further avenues of sales.

The official FAQ from Rockstar Games wrote, “Steam Deck does not support BattlEye for GTA Online”. However, an interesting thing to note is that BattlEye is actually supported on Steam Deck, in fact, the compatibility for that anti-cheat was enabled a long time ago and is reportedly quite simple to implement.

Rockstar reportedly work with Valve to bring back Deck compatibility

Thankfully, it seems that both Valve and Rockstar are working on to fix the issue. A user who inquired about the compatibility issue was met with a response on the matter. As of now, players can still access the story mode for GTA V and single-player aspects.

Talking about GTA 6, if Rockstar added an anti-cheat for GTA Online, it is likely fans will see it in other games. However, since the issue can be fixed, fans do not need to worry about any issues when GTA 6 launches for PC.
