AMD not going deep into the RX 9070 series graphics card was a huge letdown for gamers who were eager to check out the competition. While the rumours regarding the new FSR 4 were confirmed, however, the lack of information started speculation that AMD may have cancelled the presentation at the last moment due to performance issues.
Responding to everyone who was let down, AMD executives David McAfee and Frank Azor reassured that everything was fine. In an interview with Tomshardware, following the CES 2025 presentation, the executives revealed that there were no plans to go deep into the GPUs due to the time restrictions.
“Just to set the record straight to begin with, the lack of RDNA 4 in this press conference has nothing to do with product development or any of that. The chips are in the lab, and they are performing well. It's hitting all the targets in terms of performance and power,” McAfee said.

The entire presentation from AMD was rather quick, something McAfee also agreed upon; however, designs from their partners will be available very soon. Some of the designs were already revealed thanks to an image showcasing GPU designs from various partners.
“Graphics products and graphics launches are complicated, and there's a lot that has to be explained to do it justice. We wanted to make sure, as we launch RDNA 4, that we do it justice and we cover the hardware improvements, the technology, the software, the FSR 4, and the driver enhancements. All of that needs to be covered to satisfy what gaming enthusiasts care about most,” he further explained.
McAfee isn’t exactly wrong here, as revealing new GPUs does take a significant amount of time with all the caveats. Now that the information regarding a separate GPU showcase for the RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT is confirmed, gamers can rest easy.
