Minecraft movie mines massive $550 million box office collection in just 2 weeks

One of the latest movies based on video games is Minecraft, starring Aquaman actor Jason Momoa. In just two weeks of its release, the movie has mined a massive $ 550 million box office collection. The film has overperformed its expectations, and major revenue of the film comes from overseas, which is outside the US market.

Countries like China, the UK, Germany, Mexico and Australia are some of the biggest markets apart from the US. However, the movie still has a long way to beat the all-time collection of Super Mario Bros, which is the leader in Box office collection for film based on video games. The Nintendo-produced Super Mario movie was released back in 2023, and it has earned $ 1.3 billion, which is still the highest for a video game-based movie. Minecraft has just now released, and there are so many overseas markets like Brazil, India, and Southeast Asia where people enjoy these kinds of movies.

Minecraft is loved by fans 

But Warner Bros will be very happy with the way people are turning out to see the Minecraft movie. Despite average reception from the critics, the movie is well-received by the fans who enjoy the crazy scenes. It could also become a new franchise if the production sees a good scope in producing a second movie.

There’s a viral chicken jockey scene in the movie that stopped the screening in New Jersey. During that scene, the fans (mostly teens) started screaming and vandalised the screening theatre out of enjoyment. They threw popcorn with wild enthusiasm, disrupting many guests who watched the movies, and several complaints were registered across the US.

A Minecraft chicken jockey is a rare Monster that resembles a baby zombie riding a chicken. It appears in the game very rarely and is a fan favourite. When it was shown in the screening, many Minecraft players shouted. In the movie, a chicken appears in the ring to fight Jason Mamoa. He wasn't excited to fight a chicken, and then the baby zombie jumped over the chicken and charged at Mamoa, knocking him down. This may feel like an ordinary scene, but the fans love it, and you will only understand if you go watch the movie in theatres.
