Microsoft teams up with hardware manufacture to bring an Xbox-themed controller (Valve/Xbox)

According to new reports, Microsoft will reveal and possibly release an Xbox-branded gaming handheld this year. The console comes from a partnership with an outside party, likely someone who has a background in making handheld devices like MSI, Lenovo, or ASUS. Furthermore, the next-gen Xbox consoles are also in production.

This comes from an exclusive by Windows Central, which also revealed that the console is set to release this year if everything goes well. Handheld gaming has been getting popular recently with more and more companies entering the space. The hardware is currently Codenamed “Keenan” with a close resemblance to Xbox.

Xbox to combine OS with Windows?

As per details from insiders, the device will look “unmistakably Xbox”, likely similar to third-party controllers. Microsoft has already expressed an interest in a handheld device, although as per Xbox head, Phil Spencer, it is still years away. This is simply a partnership which tells us that Microsoft may be taking notes and seeing player reactions before releasing one of its own.

It will also be interesting to see what version the handheld uses. Most likely, windows will make an appearance but Xbox is planning to combine the Xbox OS with Windows for the best gaming experience. This plan is also being used by Valve with their SteamOS. There are a lot of things releasing this year, however, an Xbox-powered handheld wasn't on anyone’s list.

A new Xbox console is under development

The report further revealed that the next Xbox console which will succeed the Series X/S is greenlit and is currently under development. Fans, however, will have to wait a few years before it enters the market, as the reported release is scheduled for 2027. The official handheld might also be launched around the same time.
