The season 1 update for Marvel Rivals is out, and players love all the changes and the addition of Fantastic 4. How much you ask? The game has now broken its previous all-time peak player count record on Steam on the updated weekend and made it into the top three games on the platform. Console numbers are also expected to be the same.
A part of this success is due to the game curing the itch Overwatch 2 was leaving among the players. Although, Overwatch 2 is almost a decade old, made by Activision before the Microsoft acquisition, and lacks many things players wanted.
The first half of Season 1, Eternal Night Falls, introduced Mr. Fantastic as a new Duelist and Invisible Woman as a Strategist. So far, people are in love with both the characters and their abilities. The new heroes have been a regular sighting across a majority of the matches. Two more heroes from the team, The Thing and Human Torch are set to join the fray in the second half of the season.

NetEase removed mod support
That’s right, mods are no more with the latest update of Marvel Rivals. The company has now put up a statement saying that mods violate their policies and pose security risks. This left many players disappointed as they added another fun layer to the game, however, NetEase also needs to sell players cosmetics in a free-to-play game to sustain themselves.
Mods can allow players to change character appearance which will not be good for the company as the entire live service backbone depends on getting players to buy these skins. Besides, the talk about security risks is also true to an extent as giving players permission to mod is also permission to let them alter game files, and cheaters and hackers can run the game for everyone.
It is possible that modding the game may get players banned moving forward, however, it doesn’t seem like there are any actions against people who did before the update and announcement this time around.
