Following multiple talks and farewells from all players of Global Esports, the esports organization has now announced a halt to its BGMI esports team operations. In simple terms, fans will not see Global Esports compete in any BGMI tournaments moving forward, and the players will be moving on to new teams which are yet to be announced.

It is important to note that Global Esports will still work on the grassroots level and are not completely out of the scene, but they will also not be a part of the esports circuit for the time being. Instead, the org will be focusing on improving the base of esports in the country.

“Global Esports is suspending BGMI Esports Team Operations in India due to an immature and unstable ecosystem. We are by no means exiting the scene, we will be actively working at the grassroots level to build the ecosystem up to where it needs to be, but it will not be as a team and by having a roster,” the official announcement said.

Despite being eliminated at BMPS 2024, Global Esports was not a weak team, in-fact this year alone, the team was a strong competition across several tournaments. However, this is where the immature and unstable aspect comes in.

A wake-up call for Indian mobile esports community

The Esports industry is a very rough place to survive, especially in team-based video games. The immature part comes in the sense that it is very closed with no chance of competing at an international level. Despite PUBG Mobile and BGMI being the same game, Indian teams never get a slot in the global championships.

To make it easier to understand, if Indian teams qualify for international tournaments like PMGC, they will make much more even after getting eliminated in the bottom spot. The PMGC 2023 saw the bottom five teams from 50 teams earn $20,000. This is much more than over 90% of what Indian teams earn in a closed environment for the entire year of playing tournaments.

The unstable part comes when teams are not constantly on top, they are not able to survive in this cut-throat tournament. This is made even harder by online qualifiers where, apparently, cheaters are also present running chances of multiple teams and since the organizers are on a tight schedule it is impossible to get a re-run of all the matches.

BMPS 2024 also saw multiple allegations of cheating teams and players who were previously banned from playing under different aliases, however, the action came after the damage has been done. Players are asking for even strict compliance during the qualifiers and proper moderation and verification for teams and players.

Fans are now asking Krafton India to address and work on these issues as soon as possible. If this continues for a few more years, more teams will be leaving the competitive BGMI scene and all that is left will be just casual players and more pros turning to stream and other games.
