'It was four months back' - CG Hector explains why he called Jonathan 'overrated'

Watching GodLike Jonathan back in form at BMPS Grand Finals, fans recently asked Hector for his thoughts on the ‘overrated’ player. This was asked due to Omega and Hector calling Jonathan an overrated player during an official BGMI podcast. Responding to the fans, Hector said this is about 4–5 months old.

In a podcast for BGMI during BGIS 2024, both Hector and Omega were asked who they think is the overrated player, to which they responded to Jonathan from GodLike Esports. This came at a time when the player was not able to perform that well and the entire team was struggling to find success. GodLike also failed to qualify for the grand finals, which was a huge upset to the fans.

However, Jonathan’s recent performance at BMPS shocked everyone as he was one of the top contenders for MVP ward and was a big reason why the team finished in the top three. Revealing the truth behind the entire matter, Hector said that the entire podcast was recorded during BGIS and at the time they were just having fun by creating banter.

Friendly banter to hype fans

Hector further revealed that they also made fun of other players, but only this segment made it into the final cut. The fans, however, took the entire matter very seriously and are now asking why GodLike was in the finals and Carnival Gaming was eliminated earlier.

Trash-talking and banter between teams ahead of the tournament or even in between is a great way to create fan engagement and rivalry. Unfortunately, many people take this way too seriously, and this is what Hector was trying to explain in his stream.

The most recent example was an online banter between Revenant Esports and Orangutan, which ended after Revenant failed to make it to the grand finals, but not before a few more posts by Orangutan.
