Virtus.pro once again falls to G2 Esports at the quarterfinals of Intel Extreme Masters (IEM) Chengdu. The team did well against low-tier teams, however, they weren’t on their A-game against Astralis in group stages as well as in the quarterfinals.

G2 already started very strong, with their map pick on Anubis taking nine rounds, which created an early disadvantage for Virtus.pro in the second half. Going into the second half, things were looking solid for Virtus.pro for the first few rounds in the second half.

However, an eco conversion round was all G2 needed to put the nail in the coffin for the first map, which ended with a 13-6 score in favour of G2 sports.

The second map was on Overpass picked by Virtus.pro and sure enough, they started decently. Despite that, G2 managed to bring the score very close before the second half thanks to NiKo who was active during the entire game.

Money also had a decent run but truly stepped up during the second half. On the VP’s side, fame had a huge impact in keeping the team afloat. Sadly, G2 managed to overwhelm Virtus.pro on their map, taking the victory with a 13-10 scoreline and moving forward to the semifinals against MOUZ on April 13.

Astralis waits for their opponents

Astralis had a very good run at IEM Chengdu, and is shaping up to be a tough competitor that made their way to the semifinals after defeating both Faze and Virtus.pro. Currently, Faze is going against Team Liquid and a win will give them another chance to go against Astralis in the semifinals.

However, Liquid with their new line-up has also been posing as a threat to many and further sparking a hop for North American Counter-Strike fans.
