After multiple upsets since the release of Counter-Strike 2, G2 Esports have finally won big at the Intel Extreme Masters 2024 and to top that, it was also the 100th IEM event. With this win, the teams have also secured their invite for the IEM Cologne 2024 winner which will head to the Blast Premier World Final.
The team faced Vitality as their last hurdle, and fans got what they expected from the clast of two tier 1 teams at a grand final. Both teams played the entirety of Best of three, with m0NESY dropping 83 kills and NiKo right behind with 71 kills. The grand final between the two peaked at 820k viewers as per escharts which was double compared to the one-sided matches at quarterfinals and semis.
Grand Final Overview
G2 took the first pistol round on the T side, allowing them to take advantage of the economy and grab another two. Vitality did make a decent comeback and managed to secure five rounds in the first half. The second half saw Vitality securing pistol rounds and the subsequent rounds.
Team Vitality reached the game point first, but G2 managed to pull them into overtime (OT). With a full buy Vitality secured, the first three rounds of OT with G2 doing the same right after leading to another OT. This time, however, Vitality messed up, handing G2 their first victory.
The second match saw an early advantage for Vitality with seven rounds in bad on the defence side. The second half also saw five back-to-back rounds for Vitality, leading the match into game point once again. G2, however, was not ready to give up as the team took seven rounds back to back, forcing OT once again. This time, however, G3 could not hold the line, leading to a victory for Vitality.
This led the teams to decider where both stood on equal standing in the first half, however, G2 have had more advantage on Nuke which was displayed in the second half. Furthermore, Vitality also ZywOo failed to match up with m0NESY on the final map. The end result was a swift victory for G2 to secure the IEM Dallas 2024 crown.
