FNCS cheater now being sued Photograph: (Epic Games)
The latest season for FNCS is under way, and Epic Games is now suing a player for cheating during the ongoing series. This was successfully prevented by the moderators and while many think that was it, Fortnite filed a lawsuit against the cheater to make an example for others regarding cheating inside video games.
The player in talk is Sebastian Araujo, as per the court filings, who used prohibited software during the matches which gives an unfair advantage. Furthermore, in order to avoid getting caught, the individual was also caught using multiple accounts, which is also against terms.
“This week we filed a lawsuit against a player who cheated in our tournaments. This player used cheating software and hardware and tried to avoid getting caught by using multiple accounts. It didn’t work. Cheating has no place in Fortnite, and we’re doing everything we can to stop it, including legal action,” the official statement wrote.

It’s no surprise the cheater was caught, as the moderation team for Fortnite is known for taking quick actions. Everything’s on the table for cheaters, including hardware bans and now apparently lawsuits too. A good example set by Fortnite previously was FaZe Jarvis’s permanent ban for using cheats on live stream.

Is a lawsuit against Fortnite cheater too extreme by Epic Games?
While it is understandable that providing an equal opportunity for everyone is certainly the priority, extreme cases like these are also necessary. Araujo is not only accused of cheating during the tournament, but also trying to avoid bans and getting caught.
This step from Epic Games was taken in order to set an example for other cheaters, and prevent them trying something similar. While an underage player may get a permanent ban and kiss their Fortnite career goodbye, in cases of adults, this can mean much harsher punishment including jail time and payment of fine for the rest of their lives.
