A recent announcement made by Fortnite regarding the availability of the Matte Black style for The Master Chief saw a huge backlash from the community. The style was reportedly not unlockable any more, which contradicted the previous statement of players being able to get it at any time. A follow-up post by Epic Games backtracked on the statement.
Back in 2020, Fortnite announced that owners of Master Chief outfit could unlock the Matte Black style at any point by simply playing the game on Xbox Series X/S. “Owners of the Master Chief Outfit! You’ll unlock the Matte Black style if you play a match on Xbox Series X/S at ANY point in the future. There is no time limit for unlocking the style,” the official statement said.
However, with the return of the outfit in store a recent post revealed the style was only unlockable before December 2024 which sparked a big controversy as people bought the outfit in order to unlock the unique style.

We apologize for the confusion from our previous tweet saying it was no longer available,” the latest post said.
With Epic Games quickly switching statements and once again unlocking the style permanently after meeting requirements, everything seems to be back on track. Previously, players were citing that changing terms could once again cause issues with the FTC. The last time Epic was in front of FTC, they had to pay a massive fine.
