Following a huge announcement to further bolster the Indian Esports scene, ESFI recently announced multiple Esports LAN events. Alongside that, they also announced participation in the first World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES) 2025 by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) which will be taking place in New Delhi from February 5th to 9th.
WAVES 2025 will focus on the much-neglected AVGC and gaming industry to create quality games and animation in India. While the full schedule is yet to be announced, Esports is also expected to be a huge part of the discussion.

First-ever Esports LAN event hosted by the government
A few days back, the Esports Federation of India (ESFI) also announced the first-ever esports LAN event organised by the government for Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI). Alongside that, eFootball and WCC3 will also see online tournaments.
The qualifiers for the BGMI tournament will take place in four phases and are open to everyone
September 1 to 15
September 18 to October 2
October 4 to 19
October 21 to November 4
After the qualifiers conclude 12 teams will move to the grand finals. Each of these qualifiers will contribute towards three teams that will be competing at the LAN event taking place in Goa from November 20 to 24. Not only that, international teams will also be making an appearance at the event.
The grand finals will see a total of 16 teams going head-to-head, with four international teams invited to the mix. This is to further boost the esports sector and the first-ever initiative taken on by the government. A similar event was hosted by Krafton in Korea after BGMI was unbanned last year. Top Indian BGMI teams were invited to compete against top Korean PUBG Mobile teams.
