The next entry into the Doom franchise, ‘The Dark Ages,’ takes players back to medieval times before the 2016 Doom saw Doomguy emerge from a coffin. Matching the time, Doomguy will also wield appropriate weapons, however, the story will not end with the character landing in the said coffin as per the game director, ‘Hugo Martin’.

Advertisment

Speaking to PC Gamer, Martin, along with executive producer Marty Stratton, talked about the game’s ending, and fans will be glad to hear there is more to come. Martin said that the Doomguy won’t be getting inside the coffin just yet, leaving room for more medieval-themed games.

“Not yet, I mean, that would end the Dark Ages, the medieval chapter of the Doom saga. This is kind of like the Chronicles of the Slayer. So if we took it all the way to that point, then that would mean that we couldn't tell any more medieval stories. And I'm not announcing projects or anything other than to just say it's better to leave it open,” he responded.

DLC confirmed for Doom: The Dark Ages

As per Martin, the Doomguy was put inside the coffin after a building collapsed on him. This, however, isn’t the case for The Dark Ages, meaning this isn’t the end. Furthermore, they also have DLC planned for the game, which will further expand the story.

“We do have a DLC and things like that, so it won't—I'm not giving away spoilers—but it doesn't end with him [in the coffin],” Martin further added. This confirms that there is at least one more game with the Doomguy riding the mech dragon and parrying demons.
