A new update on Discord now allows users to ignore other people without having to mute notifications of the app or block them. This feature allows people to hide annoying messages that their friends or even some random people like to spam, basically acting as a mute option. People ignored can still send messages and users will still be able to see them at their convenience.
It’s a feature that many would argue should have been added to the app long before, however, it’s better late than never. Previously, to mute notifications, users would have to either mute the entire app DMs or block people which wasn’t convenient in most cases. To ignore people, simply click on their profile and navigate to where the block option is present. A new ignore option will be present there.

Ignored people will not be notified
While the block option will notify the person blocked and cease all forms of communication. Ignoring will work like nothing happened at all. The option will simply hide their profile and messages and mute Discord notifications and activities while still allowing people to message users normally.
This could work great in situations where someone is constantly being harassed by someone, however, there are a lot of caveats. Discord is free and people can quickly make alternate accounts, it’s better to use a combination of other settings like blocking people from sending messages who are not on the friend list or directly from a server. However, general advice for inappropriate messages is to block and report.

How does this feature benefit gamers?
The Ignore feature in Discord is a handy tool to have in general, but during gaming sessions, it may not come as handy. This is because most people have automatic notifications mute while playing a video game. This can be activated in System Notification if it isn’t already and is already doing its job very well.
