CS2 Esports World Cup: Favourites prevail and secure a spot in Playoffs

OGs and fan favourites at the CS2 Esports World Cup have now stormed their way into the Playoffs after taking down the underdogs in the opening stage.

The opening matches for Counter-Strike 2 Esports World Cup saw 15 teams compete to secure a spot in the Playoffs in single-bracket elimination. Seven teams have now made it to the Playoffs while the remaining will struggle to grasp the last spot in the Play-In Stage.

As expected, all the teams in the Playoffs included OGs and fan favourites that showcased a dominating performance. Apart from MOUZ, all others secured a flawless victory, taking down their opponents without any issues. MOUZ witnessed an opening loss, however, the team then reversed and swept Sashi Esport.

New line-up for G2 Esports prevail in the opening stage

G2 Esports recently saw some big changes to their roster with the addition of malbsMd and Snax. Fans were unsure about the picks, but the team have managed to make it into the Playoffs after taking down The MongolZ. However, the real test for the team now begins, as they will now face a tough challenge in the Playoffs.

The opening match for G2 is Team Spirit, which have been a challenge for some of the best teams out there this year. G2 only faced Team Spirit once this year at the BLAST Premier Spring Final 2024 and faced defeat. It remains to be seen if they will finally overcome them or return home.

Play-In Stage features a lot of underdog teams

The seven losing teams have now joined JiJieHao in the Play-In Stage and will now be competing for the last spot in playoffs. A majority of the teams are underdogs and only have one last shot at the Playoffs. All teams will be playing in a single elimination bracket, with losers returning home.

Among the Play-In teams, Complexity, FlyQuest and The MongolZ seem to be a strong competitor. There is a great chance for MongolZ and Complexity to meet each other at Play-Ins. Here are all the matchups for the Play-In stage.
