With things moving fast in the Indian esports scene, Tamil Nadu has now announced esports as a demo event for the Chief Minister’s Trophy 2024. This comes as part of the government's recognition towards esports and an opportunity for players to showcase their skills and popular tournament organizer Skyesports will be the one hosting this event.

Eight popular esports title are currently making their debut at the Chief Minister’s Trophy 2024. These include BGMI, eChess, Pokémon Unite, Real Cricket, EA FC, Street Fighter 6, F1 24 and NBA 2K25. Interested players can head to the Skyesports Instagram page and follow the link for all registration options.

It is also interesting to see Street Fighter 6 in the fighting games category instead of Tekken 8 which recently faced a lot of backlash from fans regarding making the new stage paid despite them affecting the gameplay style.

"We are thrilled to witness the debut of e-sports as a demo event at this year’s Chief Minister’s Trophy. This groundbreaking inclusion reflects Tamil Nadu’s forward-thinking approach to sports and youth engagement," said the Additional Chief Secretary of the Youth Welfare and Sports Development Department.

A big achievement for gamers

This is a big step towards popularizing esports and encouraging more players to take part in these events. Since the International Olympic Committee (IOC) also recently decided to officially add esports, players can see more of the similar initiative.

While it gives the country to secure a few more medals, the real advantage will be for the gamers who will have a chance to compete on an international level. Since the entry to compete in the esports events at the Chief Minister’s Trophy 2024 is free, more and more players are advised to take part and experience competition first-hand.
