CDPR surprises fans with first look at Witcher 4 featuring Ciri as protagonist

Less than a few weeks ago, CD Projekt Red announced that Witcher 4 is going into full production, and now fans have got to see the first cinematic trailer for the game at The Game Awards. Featuring Ciri as the central character of the story, CDPR’s open-world fantasy title did come as a big surprise for everyone waiting for the game.

What’s impressive is that the reveal wasn’t just a short teaser but rather a six-minute long cinematic that got everyone excited about the game. As many would have guessed, there is currently no information regarding the release of the game; however, CDPR previously suggested that fans will likely be able to play Witcher 4 by later 2027.

The game has been shrouded in mystery for the last few years. Initially, it was revealed as Polaris, which was later found out to be a new Witcher game. Witcher 4 also brings a drastic change to the developers, as they have now moved on to Unreal Engine 5 for their future projects, including the next Cyberpunk game. Furthermore, people also noticed that the trailer was rendered on an unannounced Nvidia graphics card, which are likely the upcoming 50 series graphics cards.

No Geralt in the Witcher 4 trailer

Another thing everyone noticed is that the old protagonist from the Witcher trilogy, Geralt of Rivia, was not present. The answer to this is pretty obvious: Witcher 3 was supposed to be the end of his arc and the beginning of Ciri’s journey, apart from the ending where you get everyone killed.

Despite that, there is confirmation that Geralt will be making an appearance but at the moment it's unknown if he will be playable or an NPC. Fans are likely dying to see him with a new look in the Unreal Engine 5.

However, Geralt not being in the trailer did not sit well with some people across social media, but this is how things generally go as more changes are made. Hopefully, The Witcher 4 will spawn another incredible trilogy featuring Ciri that gamers can enjoy.
