The introduction of CoD HQ with Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 raised a lot of controversies back in 2023. This was in part influenced by the game itself which was considered as a DLC being sold as a full-priced game. Now, almost a year after its launch, Activision is planning to improve upon CoD HQ while also aiming to reduce the download size for games.
In their most recent update, ahead of the CoD Black Ops 6 release, Activision has announced some changes. Alongside the interface overhaul, players will be getting more freedom to select what they want to be downloaded and reduce download size. CoD games are infamous for their download and storage requirements.
Banking away from vertical and horizontal scroll menus that players complained to be the worst decision is now changed into a single page with subsections. While the players are happy with the change, the majority still thinks that CoD HQ in general should be ditched altogether.

CoD Warzone is also being removed as a default download with games to save storage space. Players who still want to download Warzone will now have to do it separately. Alongside that, Texture Stream is also getting an update and instead of downloading directly to your device’s storage, players will have the option to choose from the Optimized and Minimal options.
Activision under fire for recent H2M Mod drama
CoD HQ and the download size aren’t the only reasons players are recently mad at Activision. Recently, H2M Mod which was announced to revive the original Modern Warfare multiplayer have received a cease & desist from Activision. This has created a huge controversy in the community.
The remastered version of Modern Warfare, which recently saw itself as the top seller, was there due to people looking forward to playing using the free H2M Mod. Sadly, a day before release, Activision shut it down. Fans have called this scummy practice and have initiated mass refunds for the game.
