Gamers slam AI-generated trailer for new ARK expansion

ARK fans recently got a first look at the upcoming ARK: Aquatica expansion and people are now asking to unsee the entire thing. Premiered during GDC 2025, the trailer was entirely AI-generated, leaving players shocked. What’s more, there wasn’t even an effort to make it look good, as people could spot artefacts from miles away.

ARK: Aquatica is being developed by Snail Games USA, which is the publisher behind ARK: Survival Evolved/Ascended alongside Studio Wildcard, the original developers. Studio Wildcard previously mentioned that the expansion is being developed by Snail Games, which now makes everyone wonder if they knew about everything. The trailer showcased racked up a lot of dislikes and has now been delisted.

Fans have low hopes for ARK: Aquatica

Things involving AI do not go down well with the gaming community, regardless of any game or developer. ARK is one of the most popular games in the dinosaur-capturing genre, as not many games are available in the genre. As one would expect with the current AI situation in the gaming industry, the fans did not like the reveal one bit.

Fans immediately called out the use of generative AI. The trailer also left many questions among the community, like the current status of the game. Many were wondering if Snail Games USA ditched everything following criticism over the teaser to put together this new trailer.

“What even is the point of an AI trailer? You're showing NOTHING. This is worse than having a PowerPoint presentation about the DLC,” one user said, while another followed up by saying, “Imagine how many AI shortcuts they took for the DLC if this is the effort they put into the trailer.”

No news for ARK 2 released

Apart from the whole AI shenanigans, fans were also expecting more details regarding ARK 2, a sequel to the original series. Sadly, fans were once again left disappointed. Studio Wildcard is currently working on the next game, but there’s one more expansion, ‘ARK: Lost Colony’, as per the studio, that will lead players into the next game.
