It’s official, beloved Alex Mason from Black Ops is dead despite players doing everything to save him. Many fans did not want to assume the character gone, as the recent COD Modern Warfare reboot brought back Ghost. However, developers recently confirmed Mason dying as the canonical ending for Black Ops 2.

“Our Black Ops operatives have been through a lot. If you know anything about Black Ops, we have put our agents and operatives through the wringer, you will see and find out the state of Woods right in the world of no Alex Mason and Jason Hudson because they’re dead,” associate creative director at Treyarch, Miles Leslie said.

The revelation was done back in June during an interview with venturebeat regarding Black Ops 6 which brought back some iconic characters including Frank Woods. Fans were eager to know his status in the upcoming COD game, but were met with this bad news. This was further stoned down by the most recent story recap for Black Ops 6 by Activision, where one again Mason was announced dead.

What happened to Alex Mason?

Alex Mason was one of the protagonist of the early Black Ops series. Those who played the name already know what happened and have likely tried to save him, however, to give a refresher. Alex Mason was shot dead by Frank Woods after being tricked by Raul Menendez.

Mason was captured and was transported with a bag over his head. Woods, who received intel that the masked man is Menendez shot him dead only to find out later that it was his best friend and the fake intel was all part of Menendez’s plan.

Despite multiple confirmation, fans of the series are not ready to see the character gone and quite frankly, if Activision can bring back Ghost who died in the original COD Modern Warfare trilogy, Mason can also come back in the future.
