Virender Sehwag, the former opener for India, wasn't too happy with the manner Suryakumar Yadav and Rohit Sharma threw their wickets during the match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). In particular, Sehwag feels that Rohit should have shown more respect for the ball and kept his ego off the field after being removed from the game for an aggressive shot against Chakravarthy.

"Whoever bowls good, just play him out. If two wickets hadn't fallen, Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav could've finished the match an over before. You can't have an ego when you come out to bat. You play them out or punish the loose deliveries. Naman Dhir came right at the end and smashed two sixes and a four; if Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav were set at that time, they would've hit 5 balls for boundaries," said Virender Sehwag as quoted by Cricbuzz.

Mumbai Indians' bad form continues as they suffered another heartbreaking loss to the KKR. Even though MI got off to a fast start in the innings, they were only able to reach 139/8 in a 16-over contest that was halted by rain. Leading batters Rohit and Suryakumar failed to leave an impression, despite Ishan Kishan scoring an explosive 40 off just 22 balls.

Rohit Sharma's poor form continues

While the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 is less than a month away, Rohit Sharma's performance and form are a great concern for India at this point. Apart from the century scored against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Rohit hasn't been impressive in any other match. Moreover, he has failed to cross double figures in four of his seven innings and his highest score since the ton was 36 against the Punjab Kings (PBKS).

Since the World Cup is scheduled in the West Indies and the USA, it's important for the openers to be in form for India to get good starts. While the USA pitches might be flat, the Caribbean wickets will be slow which will require a lot of effort and patience from the batters to score runs. Hence, being the captain it's high time for Rohit to start performing well or else India's dream of winning the World Cup will be shattered once again.
