Rishabh Pant provided some comic relief during the opening of the Perth Test on Friday. The 27-year-old was hit on the box which caused a short delay in play. Once the replays came up on the board, Virat Kohli could be seen chuckling with Harshit Rana passing off a little smile.

Ravi Shastri and Wasim Akram were commentating at the moment. The former Pakistan skipper could be heard asking Ravi Shastri why everyone laughs when any batter is hit on the box. India’s former coach shared a few funny anecdotes regarding getting hit in the box.

It was a miserable day with the bat for India as they were all out for just 150. Nitish Reddy was the best batter for India, with 41 runs from 59 balls with six boundaries and a six. Rishabh Pant was the next best batter with 37 as Josh Hazlewood picked 4/29 with the bat. Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, and Mitchell Marsh picked 2 wickets each for Australia.

Jasprit Bumrah leads India’s comeback with the ball

Stand-in skipper Jasprit Bumrah did the damage with the ball to demolish Australia’s top order. Debutant batter Nathan McSweeney came out to open with Usman Khawaja as the openers added 14 runs for the opening wicket. McSweeney, in particular, hit 2 fours before Bumrah ended his party early.

Bumrah trapped the debutant batter but the umpire didn’t give him out. Rishabh Pant felt there was an inside edge but India took the DRS anyway. Once the replays came it was seen that the batter was out LBW. Just a ball later, Virat Kohli dropped an easy catch as Marnus Labuschagne got a healthy edge off the bat.

Usman Khawaja was the next batter to be dismissed as he was caught by Kohli in the slips off Bumrah for 8 runs. Steve Smith played back to a ball that turned to be out LBW for a golden duck. Travis Head came out with attacking intent on his mind as he smashed two fours to set the tone of the game. Harshit Rana beat Head for pace as the batter was castled for 11 runs from 13 balls.
