Yashasvi Jaiswal, a young opening batsman for India, is about to surpass the record set by the great Sachin Tendulkar for the most runs scored by an Indian batter in a calendar year. Jaiswal, who has amassed 1280 runs from 12 games (23 innings) at an average of 58.18, including three hundred and seven fifties, has been in outstanding form this year.

Meanwhile, Yashasvi Jaiswal is now 282 runs short of Tendulkar's 2010 record of 1562 runs, which was the most runs scored by an Indian batsman in a single year. With three games left in the current season, Jaiswal may easily be at the top of the list by the end of the year given his current performance.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, who was bowled for a duck in the first innings of the five-match Test series against Australia, got off to a fantastic start with a spectacular 161 (297) in the second innings. When facing the new ball, the 22-year-old batted unusually, being cautious early in his innings and refraining from probing at deliveries outside the off stump.

Yashasvi Jaiswal seventh player back to back double hundred

Once set, though, Jaiswal displayed his vast range of strokes, hitting three sixes and fifteen fours in his brilliant knock as he and KL Rahul shared 201 runs for the first wicket. Since making his international cricket debut in July 2023, Jaiswal has made enormous progress. He has amassed 1568 runs from 15 games (28 innings) at an average of 58.07, including four hundreds and eight fifties.

He was only the seventh player in Test cricket history to record consecutive double hundreds earlier this year. In Rajkot and Visakhapatnam, he scored consecutive double-hundreds (209 and 214) to accomplish the milestone against England. In addition, he was the third Indian to accomplish the feat, following Virat Kohli (2017) and Vinod Kambli (1993). The youthful player will be keen to maintain his form in the remaining games of the series and assist India in winning the series in Australia for the third time in a row.
