India have made a befitting comeback in the ongoing 1st Test match against Australia by scoring 172-0 and taking a lead of 218 runs. On day two, India bowled out Australia for just 104 runs, which is their fourth-lowest total in Test cricket since 2000. While Mitchell Starc was giving the visitors a hard time with the bat, Harshit Rana did well to dismiss him in the 51st over.
Captain Jasprit Bumrah was exceptional throughout the innings, claiming five wickets. Mohammed Siraj and Harshit Rana were outstanding as they claimed two and three wickets, respectively. Starc was amazing with the bat, defending the deliveries like a pure batter.
Even Josh Hazelwood did well with the bat. But the highlight of the game shifted to the Indian openers who wreaked havoc on the Australian bowlers for a very long time. After lunch, KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal came into bat and since then, he played like it was their own home ground.
Jaiswal scored 90 runs and was just terrific with the bat while Rahul complimented him really well with a score of 62. Both the batters were unbeaten at the time of stumps. With his magnificent performance, Rahul has stunned the trollers and the cricket experts who lacked trust on him.
What will happen to KL Rahul once Rohit Sharma returns in Adelaide Test?
The Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024 has become entertaining with KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal's batting in the second innings. They treated the Australian bowlers as some B team players and thrashed them. The pitch did favour the batters really well and helped them settle down from the start. Presently, Rahul has scored a half-century and showed his form in both innings. This has become problematic for Australia and the Indian management as well.
With Rahul's form, and Rohit Sharma returning in the next game, India will be confused as to what to do with the team set-up. The management has only one option, which is: to drop Devdutt Padikkal and play Rahul at No.3. The right-handed batter is a flexible player and can bat at any position which is a plus point for him. Hence, dropping Rahul at this point wouldn't be a fair solution.
