The third edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) concluded on Saturday, March 15. Mumbai Indians Women defeated Delhi Capitals Women in the tournament’s final to clinch their second WPL title. It was a thrilling encounter between MI-W and DC-W as the inaugural champions won the WPL 2025 final by a narrow 8-run margin.

The WPL champions, Mumbai Indians Women, received a handsome amount of prize money, followed by half of the prize money awarded to Meg Lanning’s Delhi Capitals Women. 

However, there’s still a big gap between the prize money of the WPL and the Indian Premier League (IPL). So, here we’ll have a look at the prize money for both the Women’s Premier League and the Indian Premier League, alongside looking at the big gap between both the amounts.

Here’s a look at the prize money of IPL and WPL

Mumbai Indians Women received prize money of INR 6 crores as the winners of WPL 2025, while the runners-up, Delhi Capitals Women, received an amount of INR 3 crores as prize money. The prize money for the IPL is way more than that for the WPL. 

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has allocated a pool of INR 32.5 crores for the Indian Premier League. The winning side of the tournament gets a big prize of INR 20 crores, and the runners-up receive a cheque of INR 12.5 crores. Last year in IPL 2024, Shreyas Iyer-led Kolkata Knight Riders earned INR 20 crores after winning the title, beating Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final of the tournament.

On the other hand, Pat Cummins-led SRH received a prize money of INR 12.5 crores as they finished up as the runners-up in the tournament.

A massive difference between the prize money of both leagues  

Speaking of the difference between the amounts of the prize money of WPL and IPL, it calculates to the amount of INR 14 crores as the amount for the WPL winner is INR crores, while the amount for the IPL winner is INR 20 crores. It further calculates the difference of 233.3% in prize money between IPL and WPL. The prize money for the upcoming IPL 2025 has yet to be announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

The 18th edition of the Indian Premier League will commence on March 22, with the tournament opener being between the defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Rajat Patidar’s Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). The game will be played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
