Hardik Pandya, along with Tilak Varma and Kieron Pollard of the Mumbai Indians men's team, were spotted supporting their female counterparts as they proceeded toward the finals of the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2025 on Thursday. MI defeated the Gujarat Giants by 47 runs in the Eliminator. MI's owner, Aakash Ambani, was also present with the players, cheering and celebrating the victory.
It was the Giants' decision to bowl first in the game. The start they got was mindblowing, as Danielle Gibson got rid of the dangerous Yastika Bhatia in the fourth over. Following the wicket, Hayley Matthews and Nat Sciver-Brunt played their natural game and ended up forming a 1st wicket partnership of 133 runs. Both the batters were dismissed on 77 runs. Even skipper Harmenpreet Kaur contributed to the attack by scoring 36 runs off 12 balls, hitting two boundaries and four sixes.

The Giants' bowling was terrible, as MI scored 213 runs in the first innings. Danielle Gibson bowled brilliantly, taking two wickets in four overs. Ash Gardner-led Gujarat Giants could only manage to score 166 runs. The top-order batters couldn't get a good start, and the middle-order batters failed to hold the innings together. It was surely Hayley Matthews' day as she claimed three wickets as well. For a stunning all-round performance, Hayley was given the Player of the Match award.
Hayley Matthews' all-round performance helped MI advance to finals
Mumbai Indians women's team is quite lucky to have a player like Hayley Matthews, who can bat and bowl at the same time. She spoke about her plans for the game and whether those worked out in the game or not. The player has been brilliant throughout the season.
"Good to work with Nat and we went hand in hand. With the ball I had my plans. It was one of those wickets where you could put the ball away. Tried to choose my areas against different bowlers and manipulate the field. Tried to control one side of the field really well and vary my pace, which is what I'm working on," said Hayley Matthews at the post-match presentation.
