Australia have called up 19-year-old pace bowler Mahli Beardman as a cover for the ODI series against England. The Aussies have had a spate of injuries during the three-match T20I series which ended 1-1. Mahli Beardman is a 19-year-old pace bowler who played a crucial role in Australia’s Under-19 World Cup win earlier this year.

The Australians have a series of injured players to deal with. Xavier Bartlett played the 1st T20I before being ruled out due to side strain. Spencer Johnson is yet another victim of a side strain injury. Riley Meredith just like Johnson and Bartlett is suffering from same injury.

Josh Hazlewood had arrived to the UK late as he was suffering a strain to his calf. The Australians do no want to put pressure on their veteran pacer during the 5-Match ODI series. The right arm quick is a key part of the Australian side that is slated to take on India in the Border Gavaskar Trophy.

Who is Mahli Beardman? The youngster who got called up as a reserve

Born on the 31st of August 2005, Mahli Beardman first shot to headlines during the Under-19 World Cup earlier this year. The right-arm pacer dismissed three Indian batters to help his side win the World Cup title.

Australia batted first and scored 253/7 from their 50 overs against the defending champions. Mahli Beardman gave his side a huge wicket when he got through the defenses of Musheer Khan who was batting well.

The Indian star had been one of the best batters of the tournament and was batting on 22 with 3 fours. Beardman bowled a ball that shot off the wicket and stayed low to disturb the furniture.

A few overs later it was the turn of Indian skipper Uday Saharan. The right-handed batter cut a ball straight to point to give Beardman his 2nd wicket. The biggest scalp of the day was that of Adarsh Singh who was caught behind off a vicious short ball by Beardman.

The young bowler can crack decent speeds at over 90 miles per hour. One of the key features of Mahli Beardman is his ability to skid the ball off the pitch. The right-arm pacer being called up for the senior team shows how highly Australian selectors think of his talents.

Australia's squad for England ODI series:
