Gujarat Titans (GT) skipper Shubman Gill won the toss and chose to bowl first in the IPL 2025 game versus Delhi Capitals (DC) on Sunday evening. Pace bowler Kagiso Rabada made his return to the playing XI foe GT as he replaced his countryman, Gerald Coetzee. Rabada also returns to Delhi, where he played a few seasons and helped the side reach their maiden IPL final in the 2020 season.
The 29-year-old had flown home after playing a handful of game earlier in the campaign. It was later revealed that Rabada was serving a suspension after the player released a statement and rejoined the squad. The right-arm pacer will play the next few matches before heading to England to link up with his teammates to play the WTC finals.
Delhi Capitals made couple of changes to their side as well. Mustafizur Rahman has come in for Mitchell Starc while Vipraj Nigam comes in for Madhav Tiwari. The Bangladeshi left-arm pacer has signed with DC on a short term basis due to Starc’s pullout. Meanwhile, the snub for Coetzee will be a huge blow after the 24-year-old played a key role with the bat and ball for GT in their win against Mumbai Indians.
Gujarat Titans on the verge of playoff qualification
The game against DC on Sunday will see the Titans looking to win the game and make it to the IPL playoffs. If the Titans beat Delhi, then even Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Punjab Kings will head into the final four stages of the league. The final spot in the race for the playoffs will come down to Delhi and Mumbai.
Speaking at the toss, Gill said that it wasn’t easy to start from the scratch after the league was suspended for over a week. The 25-year-old stated his intent to win each of the final three games of the season and go into the playoffs on a high. Jos Buttler who is soon going to join the English white-ball team was also included.
For the home side, the equation is simple a loss on Sunday will make things interesting with two games left. Axar Patel also stated his desire to bowl first and said that he wanted to take each as it came. When asked if DC will Starc for the final few games, Axar said that he respected the decision made by the Australian seamer to pullout.
