Leading Indian seam bowler Jasprit Bumrah is set to captain India during the first Test match. The 30-year-old will lead the side against Pat Cummins' led Australia at Perth on Friday. Rohit Sharma is confirmed to miss the game and the 37-year-old will be watching the game from the sidelines as per sources.

This will be the second time that Bumrah will lead the Indian cricket team in the longest format of the game. His captaincy debut came during the rescheduled fifth Test match against England that was played in 2022. India were originally set to play 5 Test matches during the 2021 tour of England but the final Test match in Manchester was called off.

It was decided that the final Test match will be played in 2022 with Edgbaston hosting the game. Rohit Sharma who had become India’s Test captain that year had missed the game as he had tested positive for COVID.
