Cricket fans across the world are waiting for the second Test match to start between India and Australia at the Adelaide Oval. So far Team India has played 13 Test matches at this venue. This will be their 14th game and their last game at the Adelaide Oval went down in cricketing infamy. Team India scored 36/9 to record their lowest score in Test cricket during the 2020 tour. So far, India has won two games, drawn two matches, and lost 9 at the Adelaide Oval.

India’s first Test match in Adelaide Oval came during the 1947/48 tour. Australia, batting first, scored 674 runs on the board with Sir Donald Bradman scoring 201 runs. Sidney Barnes and Arthur Hassett scored 112 and 198 each. India lost by an innings and 16 runs as Vijay Hazare scored a century in each innings, while Dattaray Phadkar scored 116 in the first innings. 

Sourav Ganguly’s team finally won their first Test match in 2003 thanks to Rahul Dravid. Australia batted first and scored 556 on the board with Ricky Ponting scoring 242 and Anil Kumble picking a fifer. Rahul Dravid (233) and VVS Laxman (148) added 303 runs for the 5th wicket as India were all out for 523. Ajit Agarkar picked 6/41 to bowl out Australia for 196. India won by 4 wickets with Dravid scoring 72 not out. 

Cheteshwar Pujara turns saviour for India with heroic century 

The last time India won a Test match at the Adelaide Oval was during the 2018/19 tour. Virat Kohli was India’s captain while Tim Paine was leading the Australians. India won the toss and chose to bat first and were reduced to 41/4 at one stage. Rohit Sharma’s six over extra cover was one of the standout moments of the game. 

Cheteshwar Pujara waged a lone battle with 123 runs from 246 balls. The right-handed batter stood tall for 376 minutes with 7 fours and 2 sixes as India were all out for 250. Australia were all out for 235 in the first innings to give India a lead of 15 runs. Travis Head’s 72 was the top score for the home team. Jasprit Bumrah and R. Ashwin picked 3 wickets each while Mohammed Shami and Ishant Sharma picked 2 wickets each. 

In the 2nd innings, Pujara and Rahane turn saviours yet again as the pair added 87 runs for the 4th wicket. Cheteshwar Pujara was out for 71 runs off 204 balls while Ajinkya Rahane scored 70 off 147 balls as India were all out for 307 in their 2nd innings. 

Chasing 322 to win, Australia kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Shaun Marsh scored 60 off 166 balls with five hits to the fence. Australian lower order gave India run for their money. Pat Cummins scored 28 off 121 balls as the pacer batted for 154 minutes before falling to Bumrah. 

Nathan Lyon scored 39 not out as each run was cheered by the crowd who had come to watch the game. Mitchell Starc fell after scoring 28 runs from 44 balls before Josh Hazlewood joined Lyon to frustrate the visitors. Hazlewood scored 13 off 43 balls and added 32 runs for the last wicket. Ashwin then had the final scalp when KL Rahul took the catch to dismiss Hazlewood as India won by 31 runs to register their 2nd Test win at Adelaide Oval.
