Hyderabad was haven for hot cricketing action on Saturday as India took on Bangladesh in the final game of the series. Having won the series in New Delhi by 86 runs, the only focus was if India could manage to win the series with 3-0 margin. Suryakumar Yadav was the captain who won the toss and he chose to bat. 

In the end it was a batting fest as the home team raced to a massive 297 on the board for the loss of 6 wickets from their 20 overs. The day belonged to Sanju Samson who scored his first ever century for India in the T20I format. The right-handed batter hit 111 off 47 balls with the help of 11 fours and 8 huge sixes including five in five off Rishad Hossain. 

The 29-year-old got good support from skipper Suryakumar Yadav who scored 75. Hardik Pandya and Riyan Parag then gave the innings the finishing touches as India nearly breached the 300 mark in Hyderabad.

Highest team total by Test playing nation 

India’s 297/6 was the best ever by a Test playing nation beating the previous set by Afghanistan in 2019. The Afghans had scored 278/3 versus Ireland in 2019 in Dehradun to set a new record. England’s 267/3 vs New Zealand in 2023 at Tarouba is the third highest. For the record, Nepal’s 314/3 vs Mongolia is the highest by any team in this format. That record came in 2023 during the Asian Games that was held in China. 

Most boundaries in a single T20I innings

India hit 47 boundaries in the game with 25 fours and 22 sixes against Bangladesh on Saturday. This is the highest number of boundaries hit in a game in the T20I format. The previous best was the 43 boundaries hit by Czech Republic against Turkey in 2019. For a test playing nation South Africa’s 42 boundaries versus West Indies in 2023 was the previous best. 

Joint most sixes for a Test playing nation in T20I format

The men in blue hit 22 sixes which is the joint highest by a Test playing nation in the shortest format. Nepal’s 26 sixes vs Mongolia is the most while Japan’s 23 vs China comes 2nd. Afghanistan and West Indies have hit 22 sixes apiece versus Ireland and South Africa. That record was equaled by India on Saturday in Hyderabad as Sanju Samson hit 8 out of those 22 sixes. 

Partnership records galore 

Suryakumar Yadav and Sanju Samson added 173 runs for the 2nd wicket on Saturday. This is the thirds highest partnership for any wicket by an Indian pair. Rohit Sharma and Rinku Singh’s 190 run stand versus Afghanistan in 2024 takes the top spot. Sanju Samson and Deepak Hooda’s 176 run stands vs Ireland comes 2nd while the SKY and Samson stand on Saturday comes third. 

The 173 run stand was also second highest for the 2nd wicket by a Test playing nation. Sybrand Engelbrecht and Michael Levitt’s 193 run stand vs Namibia is the highest. 183 run stand by Ollie Hairs and Brendon McCullen vs Italy is the 2nd best. The best 2nd wicket stand by a Test playing nation is the 176 run stand between Sanju Samson and Deepak Hooda vs Ireland in 2022. 

Highest run-rate for partnership for 150 runs or more by Test playing nation

Sanju Samson and Suryakumar Yadav got to their 173 runs stand in just 69 balls. Their partnership run rate was 15.04 which is the most for any Test playing nation. The all time record belongs to Kushal Malla and Rohit Paudel for Nepal vs Mongolia. The previous record by a Test playing nation was by Dawid Malan and Eoin Morgan. The English duo add 182 off 74 balls with a run-rate of 14.75 vs New Zealand in Napier.
