India is one of the most dangerous teams in the world when it comes to cricket. However, after 36 years, New Zealand beat India on their own home ground, which was upsetting. This loss will hurt India for some time now as their win percentage in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 points table has dropped down, which is concerning.

On regular days, this loss wouldn't have hurt much. But now that the chances of qualification are at stake, the loss seems to be too much. The percentage dripped unexpectedly from a brilliant 74.24% to 68.06% after the loss. From here on, the journey towards the WTC 2025 finals will be extremely challenging for India since they have a series against Australia. Other teams like Australia, Sri Lanka, and New Zealand are in the line of qualification, which increases the competition.

Let's discuss the WTC 2025 qualification scenario for other teams:

1. India

After losing the game against New Zealand, India's equation has changed completely. Now, the Men in Blue will have to win four games and draw two games to qualify for the WTC 2025 finals. The challenge has increased as the BGT 2024 is right up the corner. India's chances of qualifying are still pretty much solid if they continue to win their upcoming matches.

India’s remaining series/games

  • India vs New Zealand - 2 Matches (H)
  • India vs Australia - 5 Matches (A)

Wins required from 7 matches: 4

2. Australia

Australia are in the 2nd position of the points table with eight wins in 12 games. Their win percentage is 62.50% which is not bad at all. Moreover, they have a high chance of qualifying since they require just four wins in seven games. But their upcoming series are against India and Sri Lanka, so their qualification scenario seems easier than others.

  • Australia vs Sri Lanka - 2 Matches (A)

Wins required from 7 matches: 4

3. Sri Lanka

In just nine matches, Sri Lanka has won five games and has a percentage of 55.56%. In the next four games, they have to win three. Their upcoming series is against South Africa and Australia, which are challenging. However, they will play a home series against Australia, where they might outplay them. If that happens, Sri Lanka might qualify in place of Australia.

4. New Zealand

The comfortable win against India helped New Zealand jump to the fourth position with four wins in nine games. Their win percentage is 44.44. However, qualification is a bit tough for them as they have to win all the upcoming five matches to leave the top teams behind and qualify for the finals, which is extremely challenging.
