India women and South Africa women took on each other in the ‘iconic’ and high-scoring thriller in the second ODI of the three-match series at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The visiting skipper Laura Wolvaardt won the toss and asked the Indian team to bat first; it was quite surprising at the batting-friendly surface at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

Batting first, the star and in-form India opener Smriti Mandhana and skipper Harmanpreet Kaur smashed the crucial centuries in the first innings. Mandhana scored 136 runs off 120 balls, with 18 fours and 2 sixes while Harmanpreet Kaur scored 103 runs off just 88 balls, with 9 fours and 3 sixes.

The duo also stitched an amazing 171-run partnership for the third wicket before Mandhana was caught by Brits off Mlaba in the 46th over of the match. Besides Kaur and Mandhana, Shafali Varma, Dayalan Hemalatha, and wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh also scored 20, 24, and 25 runs respectively.

On the back of two amazing centuries, the women in blue managed to post a total of 325 runs for the loss of just 3 wickets in the allotted 50 overs. Masabata Klass and Nonkululeko Mlaba scalped 1 and 2 wickets, respectively for SA in the first innings.

Centuries from Laura Wolvaardt and Marizanne Kapp go in vain as SA fell 4 runs short

While chasing the target, The Proteas women faced some early blows as they lost 3 wickets at the score of 67 runs. But then came the crucial 184-run partnership for the fourth wicket between skipper Laura Wolvaardt and middle-order batter Marizanne Kapp. Both Wolvaardt and Kapp scored crucial centuries, scoring 135 and 114 runs, respectively.

However, both the centuries went in vain as India managed to restrict South Africa women to the score of only 321 runs for the loss of 6 wickets and won the thrilling game by 4 runs; with this win, India women have also taken an unassailable lead of 2-0 in the three-match ODI series.
