India secured their place in the super-8 stage of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024 with a 7-wicket win against the USA in their third group-stage match in the tournament. It was also the third consecutive win for India in the ongoing edition of the tournament. They have now become the first team from Group D to qualify for the super-8 stage of the tournament.

India skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and asked the hosts USA to bat first; batting first, the American side posted a total of 110 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Opener Steven Taylor and middle-order batter Nitish Kumar contributed with the crucial 24 and 27 runs, respectively.

Star India pacer Arshdeep Singh amazed everyone with his sensational bowling as he scalped 4 wickets just at the cost of 9 runs in his entire spell of 4 overs, alongside 1 and 2 wickets, bagged by Axar Patel and Hardik Pandya, respectively.

Shivam Dube and Suryakumar Yadav guide to a secure win

While chasing the target, India faced some big blows quite early with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli just at the team’s score of only 15 runs in 2.2 overs. India lost their third wicket in Rishabh Pant at their score of 44 runs in 7.3 overs.

But then came the match-winning unbeaten partnership of 67 runs for the fourth wicket between the World No. T20I batter, Suryakumar Yadav and all-rounder Shivam Dube. SKY scored 50 runs off 49 balls, with 2 fours and 2 sixes, alongside Dube’s 31 runs off 35 balls, hitting a six and a four. On the back of this partnership, India chased down the target in 18.2 overs and won the game by 7 wickets. Star Indian-American pacer Saurabh Netravalkar scalped 2 wickets for the USA and conceded only 18 runs in his quota of 4 overs.

Arshdeep Singh won the ‘Player of the Match award for his match-winning bowling performance for India.
