Australian star Mitchell Marsh has backed Steve Smith to shrug off the bad run of form he is going through. The 35-year-old batter has managed to score just 19 runs so far from the three innings he has batted. Smith scored a duck and 17 in Perth, followed by 2 runs in Adelaide. This has created huge worry in the Australian media as well as amongst the fans.
Ahead of the third Test match versus India in Brisbane, which begins on Saturday, Mitchell Marsh has backed his teammate. The 33-year-old, as quoted by CRICBUZZ, said, “We know he's one of our best players ever, and I'm certainly backing him to get some runs. I'm probably not in a position to tell Steve Smith what he should work on. We know he's a class player, and he's scored a lot of runs for Australia, and we know at times when we've needed him, he always seems to step up.”
The last time Australia played at this venue was earlier this year against the West Indies, which they lost by 8 runs. Steve Smith was not out of 91 while opening the batting after David Warner’s retirement. The game is famous for Shamar Joseph picking 7 wickets to bowl his side to a famous win.
Mitchell Marsh looking forward to duel with Bumrah
One of the bowlers who has been a constant threat for Australia during the first two games has been Jasprit Bumrah. The 31-year-old pacer began with a fifer in the 1st innings of Perth and got three more wickets in the second innings. Bumrah then picked up 4 wickets in Adelaide to take his tally to 12 wickets.
Speaking about Bumrah’s threat, Marsh said, “We know right now he's probably the best bowler in the world. It's just about getting up for that challenge; it's a big series. You want to take the best in the world on. That is certainly my mentality. Looking forward to facing him again.”
Australian all-rounder also mentioned his team doesn’t want to look to far ahead and take each game as it comes “The biggest thing for us is just focusing on this week and not what's happened in the past. The way we bounced back from Perth was an example of that. We're really focused on playing our style this week and hopefully going 2-1 up in the series.”
