Young Australia opener Nathan McSweeney, who made his Test debut in the first Test of the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy against India, has been seen struggling against India’s star pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah. McSweeney has been dismissed by Bumrah on three occasions out of the four innings he has appeared so far.
Meanwhile, McSweeney has spoken about his preparations for facing Bumrah in the upcoming third Test at the Gabba in Brisbane, starting on December 14. The Queensland batter has scored 59 runs in four innings of the two games he has played against India. He has failed to leave any impact with the bat except for a knock of 39 runs in an innings.
He’s world-class and a bit different to most bowlers I’ve faced – Nathan McSweeney about Jasprit Bumrah
In the recent line of developments, the 25-year-old caught up in a chat with cricket.com.au, in which he briefly spoke about his plans for facing one of the great ‘pacers of this generation’, Jasprit Bumrah.
“To get a bowler like Jasprit early in my career, it’s not going to get much tougher than that. I take some confidence from getting through a spell in Adelaide. The more I face him, the more comfortable I’ll get against him,” said McSweeney to cricket.com.au.
“Facing him for the first time – he’s quite a unique bowler. He’s world-class and a bit different to most bowlers I’ve faced. [It’s about] adapting to his angle and where he delivers on the crease,” he added later.
Notably, McSweeney was dismissed by Bumrah in both innings of the first Test at Perth; the former also recalled his experience of facing the Indian veteran in his Test debut.
"I got two pretty good balls from him, so I try to wear that on the chin and trust what I’ve been doing is going to be good enough. He got me again in Adelaide – he’s a great bowler, and I’m enjoying the experience of trying to work out a game plan on the run against a world-class player. Hopefully, I’ll get better the more I face him and can throw a few more punches here at the Gabba," McSweeney said.
