Bangladeshi bowlers had the Indian team in trouble on the ropes at 144/6 on the first day of the Chennai Test. The visitors saw Hasan Mahmud create havoc with the ball as he picked up four wickets for his side. Nahid Rana then got the 5th wicket of the day when he sent back well set Yashasvi Jaiswal for 56. KL Rahul was the 6th batter to fall after scoring 16 runs from 52 balls.

The incident happened in the 43rd over when Mehidy Hasan Miraz was bowling to KL Rahul. The Indian batter played to a ball that was heading to the middle stump and tried to close the face of the bat.

Zakir Hasan, standing at the forward short leg, took a low catch. The Bangladeshi players sprinted towards the fielder who had taken a stunning catch. KL Rahul, playing his first Test since January, was out for 16 off 52 balls with a single four.

Yashasvi Jaiswal fights lone battle with the bat

Earlier in the day, Indian opener and batting star Yashasvi Jaiswal continued his good form with the bat. The left-handed batter scored 56 off 118 balls with 9 hits to the fence. Jaiswal didn’t seem in trouble despite the wickets falling at the other end.

The young batter combined well with Rishabh Pant to add 62 runs for the 4th wicket in 97 balls. Nahid Rana, who impressed everyone with his pace and bounce got the key wicket of Jaiswal. The Bangladeshi pacer got the ball to rear off the length as Jaiswal edged the ball straight into the hands of Shadman Islam.

Hasan Mahmud has been the best bowler for the visitors with 4 wickets so far. The right-arm pacer saw Rishabh Pant smash him for a four just after lunch. Sensing the aggressive mood Pant was in Mahmud induced an edge. The Indian wicketkeeper was back int the hut for 39 off 52 balls with 6 fours.

At the time of writing, India were placed at 165/5 from 45 overs with R. Ashwin batting on 12. The Chennai lad hit two crisp fours as his huge home crowd welcomed him with a massive cheer. Ravindra Jadeja was batting on 5 with a lofted four against Mehidy Hasan Miraz.
