Joburg Super Kings halted Sunrisers Eastern Cape’s winning run in SA20 league with nine-wicket win on Sunday. That win has given Joburg Super King great chance of making it to the playoff stages of the tournament as the season heads into the business end.
Wihan Lubbe came up with an outstanding piece of fielding on Sunday to dismiss Tristan Stubbs to alter the course of the game. The incident in question happened in the fifth ball of the 18th over with Pathirana bowling to Liam Dawson. The batter played the ball towards mid-wicket region and set off for a run only to change his mind at the last moment.
Stubbs, who was at the non-striker’s end started running as Wiaan Lubbe slid to stop the ball. Sensing that the batter was being sent back, Lubbe came up with the perfect throw to run-out the batter. Stubbs was angry after being dismissed but made his way back to the hut after scoring 37 runs. His knock came off 38 balls with one boundary and two sixes.
Devon Conway and Hardus Viljoen power JSK to key win
Aiden Markram won the toss and chose to bat first and soon found his team tottering at 17 for 4 at one stage. Zak Crawley was out to Lutho Sipamla in the first ball of the match. Tom Abell was also dismissed without opening his account in the final delivery of the opening over. Sipamla struck for a third time when he had Jordan Hermann caught behind by Jonny Bairstow for a duck.
Hardus Viljoen then struck the biggest blow of the game when he castled Markram for a golden duck in the fifth ball of the fourth over. David Bedingham and Tristan Stubbs came together and added 57 runs for the fifth wicket in nine overs. Bedingham scored 48 runs from 40 balls before falling to Imran Tahir. Sunrisers Eastern Cape were bowled out for 118 on the board.
Bayers Swanepoel got the wicket of Faf Du Plessis for 15 to given Sunrisers their only success with the ball. Devon Conway and Wihan Lubbe ensured that Super Kings won the game with nine wickets in hand and six overs left to play. Conway was not out on 76 off 56 balls with 11 fours and three sixes. Lubbe was unbeaten on 25 off 17 balls with three fours and a six.
